Compliance Monitoring for Hermosa Beach Fiber Optic Cable Landing
Service: Mitigation Monitoring

AMS scientists were responsible for monitoring four Horizontal Directionally Drilled (HDD) bore holes in Hermosa Beach, California for compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act Mitigation Monitoring Plan, permits issued by the California Coastal Commission, California Water Quality Control Board, US Army Corps of Engineers, and the City of Hermosa Beach. A key component of this permit compliance validation effort was the monitoring of the HDD drilling operations for potential drilling fluid releases both onshore and offshore along each bores trajectory. Rhodamine dye was placed into the drilling fluid and both discreet and in-situ monitoring of ocean water along each bores route was conducted whenever drilling was underway.
