Following several previous investigations for the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), AMS has been conducting monitoring of methylmercury (MeHg) in the Stockton and Sacramento Deep Water Ship Channels during maintenance dredging operations and in dredged material placement sites. AMS’ responsibilities includes coordination of all field activities, subcontracting for analytical services, data management and quality control, and reporting. As part of the current investigation, AMS has developed a protocol to perform real-time turbidity profiles of the water column to direct water sampling to targeted locations. AMS follows State mandated data quality measures, such as the use of low detection limit analyses for the analytical work and ensuring clean hands techniques training to avoid cross-contamination. This work is being closely coordinated with the USACE, and address management questions of importance to the State Water Board.
