AMS was instrumental in the planning and preliminary work for three trans-Pacific fiberoptic cable landings into Eureka, California; two of these cables run through the proposed Humboldt Wind Energy Area (WEA). Prior to construction and installation, AMS staff compiled seafloor data from the region and used GIS mapping to determine a cable route that would result in the least impact to the marine environment. AMS field scientists were on-site throughout the Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) boring process, conducting regular onshore and offshore monitoring and working with HDD personnel to ensure CEQA permit compliance and minimal impact to the environment, while navigating the challenges of working along the North Coast
