Scientific Study Support for Exxon Valdez Oil Spill

AMS was selected by the US and State of Alaska Joint Trustee Council to provide the Chief Scientist and Assistant Chief Scientist for the government’s investigations of natural resource damages from the Exxon Valdez oil spill in Prince William Sound, Alaska. AMS staff also provided technical advice on scientific studies of the Exxon Valdez oil spill to the State of Alaska. Since then, AMS staff has guided the development of the restoration program, which is currently one of the largest marine research and monitoring programs in the world. AMS staff assisted in developing plans, reviewing proposed projects, assessing progress and recommending changes, reviewing project results and reports, and establishing and managing a network of advisors to provide specialized peer review services.
